Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Professional Organizer?

A Professional Organizer is someone who can help you create a more comfortable home and who can teach you new skills in the process. We have the skills and experience to help you simplify your life and set up systems that meet your particular needs. A Professional Organizer is someone who will guide you through the process without any judgments but more importantly, we have a passion to help others.

How does this work?

We set up a consultation at your home, find out what's working and not working, we discuss goals and then set up a Plan of Action. Then we work as a team, with a hands–on approach to sort through and organize your “stuff” and set up systems that will work for you.

My whole house needs organizing. Where do we start?

We'll evaluate your house, and prioritize the projects together. We might begin in an area that causes you the most stress, or an area that is critical to your family or office. Once we understand your needs, we can determine where to begin.

Can my children be at home while we organize?

Sure. Please keep in mind though, that you're paying for the service, and young children may increase the length of time to complete the project. We recommend that you have a spouse or friend watch younger children. When organizing older children's rooms, they should definitely be there to help and offer input.

Can't I do this alone?

Getting organized can seem too difficult and even painful at times. It helps to work with a Professional Organizer who understands this and who can walk you through the process, making it as painless as possible. We can organize slowly over time, so it's not as hard as changing everything at once.

Do I have to throw everything away?

No. You make all the decisions about what to keep and what to discard. I will never make you throw away anything. I may strongly suggest giving or throwing something away, but the decision is always yours. Part of getting organized is figuring out your priorities and goals. When you know what's most important to you, it's easier to decide what to keep and what to toss.

How many hours does it take to organize?

That depends on the size of the room or project, its condition, and your motivation level. Because each person is different and each project varies, there is no standard answer. In most cases, after my initial consultation with you, I can give you an estimate of how long it might take to complete a project.

What if I feel embarrassed about my mess?

Don't worry. There is no need to feel embarrassed! We've seen it all, and we're here to help you, not judge you. Our work with you is always confidential. And where you might see a mess, we see an interesting challenge.

How much does it cost?

The cost will depend on the amount of work, and the length of time required to complete the project. Some projects are done on an hourly basis and some quoted per project. In all cases, we will determine how to best meet your needs.

I'm a packrat. Can you still help me?

Don't worry. We understand that change is difficult but we definitely can help you eliminate the clutter and teach you systems to stay clutter–free. We can't always guarantee that keeping things organized will be easy, but we'll make it as easy as possible, or at least easier than it was.

Should I clean up a bit before you come over?

No. At least for the first session, it's best if we see your place in all its glory. Observing how you handle your things now can help us see what is and isn't working for you.

Can I give someone else the gift of The Organized Lady services?

Absolutely! You may purchase the Gift of Organization for a friend, or relative. Keep in mind that organizing is a personal choice that takes commitment.
